In the pandemic, as the consumer focus shifted firmly from styling to caring for hair as an act of self-care, social discussions of scalp issues exploded. Analysis of online conversations saw mentions of scalp issues rise by +76%2, marked by the emergence of search terms like “quarantine scalp,” “itchy scalp,” and “oiliness.” This was backed up by consumer research, which found between 2017 and 2020, worldwide cases of scalp discomfort jumped by 36% while oily scalp issues increased 15%3.

of salon services in Asia. In Japan, the most established country for scalp care, high-tech in-salon services include head spas, where the scalp is treated with carbonized water to eliminate impurities.

As part of the development of Scalp Advanced, L’Oréal Professionnel asked the question: “What if more hair pros had the products, tools and skills to care for the scalp in complete confidence?” We want hair pros to become a go-to source for scalp care. We’ve worked with pros and dermatologists to develop a comprehensive line of products for all scalp issues, as well as an extensive education program that gives hair pros the skills to become experts on scalp issues– be it dryness, discomfort or sensitivity, or oiliness or dandruff, or any combination of those.

To respond to this demand, we asked some of the most scalp expert stylists in the world to work together with L’Oréal Laboratories on the development of the Scalp Advanced product line and education platform.

Anti-Discomfort: With up to 4% Sorbitol1 and Niacinamide to regulate and soothe sensitive scalps.
• Sorbitol: Polysorbate-2 – A active ingredient known for its skin-soothing properties.
• Niacinamide – A vitamin from the B3 family, known for its skin-regulating and soothing powers.
Anti-Dandruff: Anti-bacterial Piroctone
Up to 100% dandruff removed3.
• With Piroctone Olamine: Suitable for dry and oily skin, antibacterial and antifungal ingredient that treats the scalp to clarify it from dandruff.
Anti-Oiliness – Up to 3% AHA4 Up to 6% Clay5
• AHA – A water-soluble acid made from fruits.
• Clay – Clay: soft, fine-grained minerals that can do a soft peel on the skin to help to unclog skin surface from dirt, oil and sweat.

This versatile multi-usage clay was targeted-formulated with 6% Clay, a fine-grained active ingredient, that can do a soft peel on the scalp and absorb sebum.
Dermo-clarifier shampoo. – RRSP – R370-00
This lightweight cream was targeted-formulated with Piroctone Olamine, suitable for dry and oily skin, antibacterial and antifungal active ingredient.
Gently clarifies and effectively removes dry and oily dandruff, while calming the scalp.
